Panel bending

Panel bending is a metal forming process used to bend flat sheets or panels of metal into a desired shape or angle. The process involves clamping the sheet metal between a punch and a die, and applying a bending force to deform the metal and create the desired angle or shape. This is performed using automated press brake machinery with high levels of accuracy and repeatability.

Welding processes

Each welding method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of welding process depends on the specific application and requirements of the fabrication project. Met-Fab welders are fluent in both the MIG and TIG aluminium welding processes, ensuring high-quality welds with no defects with 3 dedicated bays for TIG welding where typically a stronger quality weld is required

TIG Welding

TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to create a weld. The weld area is protected from atmospheric contamination by an inert gas such as argon or helium. TIG welding is often preferred for aluminium fabrication because it produces high quality, precise welds with excellent visual appearance.

Common questions about metal fabrication bending & welding

What are the different types of bending that Met-Fab Solutions can offer?

We offer a wide range of metal bending processes including channel, angle, cill and corrugated bending.

What weld should I choose for an aluminium fabricated panel?

The choice of weld is based on a number of factors including the type of material, thickness of the material and the desired results.

How do I prevent cracking when bending aluminium sheet metal?

  • Choose the right alloy
Select an alloy that is specifically designed for bending applications
  • Use proper tooling
The tooling should have a wide radius to distribute the bending force evenly and minimize stress
  • Anneal the aluminium
Annealing involves heating the aluminium to a specific temperature before slowly cooling it
  • Gradual bending
Use a gradual bending process by making several smaller bends along the desired shape

What types of welding are suitable for aluminium sheet metal?

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding is most suitable for welding aluminium. TIG welding provides excellent control over the heat input, making it suitable for thin aluminium sheet metal.
